A LITTLE BIT ABOUT THE HUMANS US.
we tell stories.
first of all, this is lane talking. i’ve always hated pretentious third-person corporate bios. so here’s my hopefully un-pretentious, un-corporate, first-person bio.
i started this journey 15 years ago in 2010. i set up a small recording studio in an industrial warehouse in greenpoint, brooklyn, across the street from a polish bakery and cheap prop storage for some bad TV shows that still filmed in new york. i walked past tom selleck dressed up like a cop once while i was leaving a session at 4am.
i learned how to make records there. how to produce bands, write songs, run a business, manage a staff. how to cut it as a creative person without a day job in finance or a night job in a bar. those were the days.
music was my whole life. but after you commit a decade of your life to one thing, you start to see the bigger picture. it was starting to hit me: artists are great at being artists, but they’re horrible marketers.
we’d spend months working on a new record, then the bands would make an instagram post and play some shows, thinking some major label A&R rep would be lurking in the back with a bag of coke and a star-maker contract for them to sign. i wasn’t around in the 70’s but that sure as hell wasn’t happening in the internet age.
the world was going chronically online, and i desperately wanted to help artists get their music out there. so i kicked into high gear telling stories.
i started filming sessions, taking press photos, producing podcasts, making movies. i started a record label, hosted a talk show, threw parties. i hate the word “content,” but hey, it was more important than ever.
15 years later, UFO is my way of bringing it all together.
we’re a small and mighty team working out of a much nicer recording studio in clinton hill, brooklyn.
we work with brands, applying the same indie artist marketing mindset to help them tell their story and get the word out. we move fast, we connect the amazingly creative artists in our network with the brands they love and we get to do the work we love, making magic out of ideas.
we stopped trying to put a label on it a while ago; we’re not just a marketing agency, a video production company, a music house, a photo studio.
we’re a bunch of creative people here to make things.
if you’ve made it this far, let’s talk. i’d love to hear your story.
